EeStairs biggest single project – carried out during the first wave of the pandemic – was for 11 feature staircases in high rise offices in London designed by Sheppard Robson Architects: three massive elliptical stairs and eight straight flights of stairs. The helical staircases have genuine Wow Factor, with monolithic balustrades made from solid steel plates, rolled by EeStairs to form precisely curved elliptical structures. The treads, risers, and stepped soffits are clad in oak.
The straight staircases have a simple stringer design with matching oak-clad treads and stepped timber soffits, and these staircases were enclosed with decorative steel screens which supported oak handrails. All the staircases were fitted with LED ribbons recessed into the underside of the handrails.
EeStairs’ installation team, working with contractor ISG, faced a considerable challenge: the only way they could get the staircases to the 32nd floor of the building was by using a standard goods lift. So, the staircases were made and delivered in sections which were carried up by the lift, and then very accurately reassembled and painted.
