EeStairs + Anneleen Windey Architectuur
Our clients’ home, the Villa Kasmi in Lochristi, is architecturally striking – a highly modernist form composed of white-rendered cubes with unusually large windows. Internally, there is a great deal of natural light and open space and so the feature staircase, which rises through three floors, has a very strong presence.
The stair design was developed in close collaboration with the clients, and evolved from an original Helical proposal to a three-stage staircase with two landings and glass parapets.
One of the challenges was to allow as much natural light through the stairs as possible, and this was achieved with open wooden treads and steel balustrades that morphed into EeStairs’ unique open-weave Cells® system. Another carefully achieved detail was to ensure that the American cherry wood on the stairs was oiled to match the colour tones of the home’s walnut furniture.
